Stuff happens all the time on WordPress.com. You’re blogging, commenting, liking, and following like never before. Every hour a record is broken and someone’s day is made. We’ve always known about your love affair with stats. We like watching numbers grow, too. And we also like to see the events that the numbers represent. We think of Notifications as a magnifier for Stats: you can zoom in to see exactly who did what and then connect with them.

I have a weakness for block planes.  They are the two seater sports cars of the hand plane world – quick, nimble, and fun to handle.  Heck, from the classic lines of Stanley Excelsiors 130 years ago to the high performance Veritas planes of today, they even look fast.  (Both shown below)

I have a sizeable collection of block planes that includes some of the rarest and most beautiful ever made.

10 Guidelines for the Cutting Edge of a Handplane

Reblogged from Lost Art Press:

During the last eight years I’ve tried to refine how I explain how to use a handplane to students. The biggest problem the students have isn’t ignorance. I wish that were the case. Instead, their biggest problem is they have been flooded with so much contradictory information that they are paralyzed.

So I’ve been trying to increase the signal and decrease the noise so they can focus on what is important.

Hi Folks! Here’s a post from a fellow writer who’s also a friend: Denise Schipani. She’s got a new book out, too! (See below.) –  L.

Mean Moms Rule by Denise Schipani

My son’s 9-year-old friend, Luke, mows the lawn at his house.

A generation ago, legions of 9-year-olds would be out in back and front yards in every suburb in America, revving mowers and cutting the grass – and no one would think a thing of it.

Fantastic!

Haters

I love good music. Heaven knows, I listen to plenty of Chopin, Pearl Jam, and Coltrane. But, I have a weird part of my brain that makes me like really bad music. Like Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, and other unmentionables. Instead of hiding this addiction, I’ve created a new Rdio playlist. Feel free to subscribe or to admonish me in the comments. :)

Please make me pay

I am an adult. I have a job. My wife has a job. We have iPads, iPhones, and, (most importantly), disposable incomes.

If I like a service or product that you provide, I will pay for it. Please let me pay. I’m tired of free, ad-supported apps, services that go under after 6 months, buyouts, and talent acquisitions.

Don’t be scared to charge your customers and take the money. Don’t be scared to only open your service or application to people that are willing to pay for it. And for the love of everything holy, don’t be scared to charge more than you think your service or product is worth. (Hint: It is worth more than you think.)

What makes developing Alfred so much fun is the amazing community that has grown around him over the past two years. And sometimes, Alfred users simply blow us away with their creativity!

Hot on the heels of last week’s search for the perfect custom themes to add to version 1.2, long-time Alfred friend and extension creator Kailey Lampert created a new site, …
